A mobile wood-fired unit is a piece of equipment that is worth having extra security measures in place for. We are not all operating with the budgets to spend thousands of dollars on security measures, so here are some quick tips to help keep your unit a little more secure.
Purchase tongue locks. Tongue locks can prevent someone from hooking up your trailer and driving away. After each time you use your unit, check the trailer compartments to ensure they are secure.
Signage can be a great deterrent. Magnetic signs that state, “Under video surveillance” can be just as effective as actual surveillance. But if you have the opportunity, purchasing a portable surveillance system and motion detectors will work as well.
If you choose to use padlocks, remember that quality and type matter. Hidden shackle padlocks can be installed and are very hard to remove. And remember common sense: don’t leave anything in or with your unit worth stealing like cash!
Finally – we live in a community. And since we are in a community, we can reach out to that community and ask for a couple of extra eyes on your area. If you are in a smaller community, making friends with the local law enforcement (free pizzas!) can amount to a little extra security!
